Singapore

Singapore’s name is derived from Sanskrit, which means “Lion City.”  Historically, Singapore has been a melting pot of cultures, where people of all races, languages and religions come together to live harmoniously on an island smaller than the size of New York City.

In recent years, Singapore’s aspiration to be a global dispute resolution hub has come to fruition. Changes to its mediation landscape have been led by organizations, such as: the Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC), Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC), Singapore International Mediation Institute (SIMI), and Singapore International Dispute Resolution Academy (SIDRA).

The United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL)’s approval of the Singapore Mediation Convention and the signing of the Convention in 2019 will cement Singapore’s place in the world of mediation, as well as bring attention to the coming age of mediation as the most appropriate dispute resolution process.
