Rob Hammesfahr is a strong advocate for the use of mediation and ADR by global reinsurers, insurers and their clients and for reinsurance claims professionalism.

Rob Hammesfahr is a strong advocate for the use of mediation and ADR by global reinsurers, insurers and their clients and for reinsurance claims professionalism. He is currently a consultant with HWR Consulting LLC, based in Illinois.

From 2006 until 2013, Mr. Hammesfahr worked for Swiss Re and his responsibilities included governance of key claims. He was involved in the successful mediation of the World Trade Center property subrogation litigation, as well as claims arising from accounting, asbestos, construction, oil spill, mining and infrastructure failures, the 2007/2008 financial crisis, the Katrina, Wilma and Rita hurricanes, medical malpractice programs, natural catastrophes in Asia, Australia, Chile, and New Zealand, pharma and medical devices, pollution, property lines and inward and outward reinsurance payment issues.

Prior to joining Swiss Re, Mr. Hammesfahr was a shareholder of Cozen O’Connor, a founder and managing partner of Blatt, Hammesfahr and Eaton and a partner at Peterson Ross. As outside counsel, he assisted in obtaining reinsurance performance for property losses arising from the 9/11 terrorist attack, the development of cyber insurance, and coordination of the defense of London and overseas insurance interests against direct and reinsurance asbestos, pollution and health hazards claims.

Mr. Hammesfahr regularly speaks and publishes. He is co-author of treatises on Cyber Insurance, Reinsurance Claims Law and Punitive Damages. He is a graduate of Northwestern University of Law and Colgate University.
