Orouba Qarain serves as secretary of the Board of Directors at Capital Bank. She has experience in both law and business, with extensive mediation education and training. She served as legal consultant to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR Amman – Jordan).
Ms. Qarain considers herself fortunate to have had a unique career path over the more than twenty years of her legal and mediation practice. She has been involved in positions and tasks of greater variety and interest than many lawyers would get to experience in two careers.
Her current position at Capital Bank as the Secretary of the Board of Directors entails coordinating with the Chairman, so that all Board decisions are in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and instructions issued by the regulatory authorities in Jordan, in addition to the Bank’s policies. She further coordinates with bank management to ensure that all Board decisions are implemented and makes arrangements per the applicable laws in cooperation with the relevant departments and committees of the Bank, for the Bank’s General Assembly meeting.
Litigation Practice
Over the past twenty years, Ms. Qarain has worked with individuals and companies from almost every conceivable field, including traditional areas of commercial law in retail, services, financial, insurance, and many other fields. Her career as a lawyer at Muneer Sukhtian and Sharif Zoubi Law involved providing legal consultations in commercial law areas including:
- Commercial agencies
- Distributorship
- Commercial representation
- Intellectual property laws
Ms. Qarain has represented clients in all courts in Jordan. She was involved in drafting commercial and civil agreements including: distribution, labor, agency, and licensing agreements. She has experience advising national and international clients on a wide range of business and corporate law in Jordan, including: commercial and companies’ laws, civil law, electronic transactions law, civil procedure, evidence law, labor law, social security law, and intellectual property laws.
With the breadth and depth of her experience, particularly in handling numerous litigated cases, Ms. Qarain brings credibility, perspective and ability to resolving any matter in her areas of interest, which include an emphasis on business, employment, banking and shareholders’ issues and extensive involvement in financial regulatory bodies laws and regulations, such as the Central Bank of Jordan and Amman Stock Exchange.
In addition, she served as a legal consultant to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR Amman – Jordan), enriching her legal experience.
Mediation Practice
Ms. Qarain worked as Senior Legal Consultant for The American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative, where she assisted the Jordanian Ministry of Justice in implementing the Judicial Upgrading Strategy, with a primary focus on judicial independence.
She founded and established the first Judicial Court Mediation Program at the Amman Palace of Justice and assisted in the selection, qualification and oversight of mediators. Additionally, she helped in the development of a code of conduct for mediators and provided mediation training sessions.
