Dimitra Gavriil has been an attorney-at-law with the Athens Bar Association and a full-time conflict resolution practitioner since 2000. Her practice focuses on mediation and restorative practices.

Throughout her career as a lawyer, Ms. Gavriil has championed a collaborative approach and an interest-based amicable solution to conflicts. In 2013, following her accreditation by the Greek Ministry of Justice, she became a certified mediator in private law cases. During that same period, she engaged in community mediation activities as the co-founder of a community mediation center and as a facilitator in public dialogues on migration and violence.

Since 2016, Ms. Gavriil has served as Director of European Programs for Prison of Peace, implementing peacemaking and mediation practices in prisons and beyond.

Ms. Gavriil draws from her experiences in the non-violent communication model, in order to bring a spirit of connection, honest expression, and empathic listening to all conflict resolution processes she engages in.

She is a member of several domestic and international ADR related organizations.

Litigation Practice

Ms. Gavriil served as in-house corporate counsel for 13 years.

Mediation Practice

Ms. Gavriil became a certified mediator in 2013 and has mediated several cases with a high rate of settlement. Her mediation experience primarily includes family and commercial cases.

  • Extensive training in mediation, restorative practices, NonViolent Communication, and conflict resolution training (more than 850 hrs.) at international institutions in Europe and the US, such as the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University School of Law, Center for NonViolent Communication, JAMS, and Mediators Beyond Borders International

ADR Teaching and Mentoring

  • As Director of European Programs for Prison of Peace, Ms. Gavriil teaches peacemaking and mediation to prison inmates and prison personnel, notably in nine men’s prisons and one women’s prison in Greece, where she also conducts Training of Trainers workshops.
  • Ms. Gavriil has been a mediation and conflict resolution trainer since 2013 and has conducted numerous trainings and workshops for schoolteachers on communication and mediation skills, as well as nonviolent communication and restorative practices for public servants and business executives on workplace disputes and conflict resolution.
