Ruslan Mirzayev is a corporate lawyer with twelve years of corporate and general litigation experience, qualified to practice law in the State of New York and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Mr. Mirzayev is the founder and principal of ArbMe, a dispute resolution center providing mediation and other dispute resolution services in Azerbaijan. Since 2017, Mr. Mirzayev has served as a local expert under a World Bank project to implement the first court-annexed pilot mediation project in Azerbaijan. He has ten years of experience in the field of dispute resolution as a practitioner and teacher.

In addition to his professional activities, Mr. Mirzayev is also Deputy Chairman of the Board of the US-educated Azerbaijan Alumni Association, one of the largest non-profit organizations in Azerbaijan.

Litigation Practice

Mr. Mirzayev has represented parties in multi-million dollar international commercial and investment arbitration cases as local counsel, as well as international commercial and settlement negotiations as lead counsel. He has acted as lead counsel for major Azerbaijani corporations in local litigations, merger and acquisitions, and other transactions, primarily involving banking, finance, corporate and commercial law.

Mediation Practice

Mr. Mirzayev has actively promoted mediation for more than 10 years. Since 2017, his practice has provided commercial mediation services. He has been involved in the design and implementation of mediation programs in connection with the courts in Azerbaijan and has trained mediators to mediate disputes in court.

ArbMe, the dispute resolution center founded by Mr. Mirzayev, is the leading partner for insurance companies for mediation services in Azerbaijan.

ADR Achievements and Training

  • Has represented private parties and states as a local counsel in multi-million investment and commercial arbitration cases
  • As an expert under a project financed by the World Bank, was responsible for overseeing the effective operation and administration of the first court-annexed mediation center in Azerbaijan
  • Is often invited to international conferences as an expert in Alternative Dispute Resolution in Azerbaijan
  • Awarded a Weinstein JAMS International Fellowship (2017)
  • Has undergone extensive negotiation and mediation training at the Program on Negotiation, Harvard Law School

ADR Teaching and Mentoring

Mr. Mirzayev has taught alternative dispute resolution courses, including: negotiation, mediation and arbitration, for judicial candidates, attorneys, government officers, other professionals, and students at the Judicial Academy of the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan and Baku State University for the last ten years. He has also trained mediators in Azerbaijan.
