Fernando Navarro Sánchez currently serves as the Capacity Building and Conflict Resolution Expert at the Ombudsman’s Office for UN Funds and Programmes. He is also a JAMS panelist and has served as a commercial mediator with experience mediating and co-mediating complex matters involving parties and counsel from Latin America, the U.S., and Europe. Mr. Navarro has significant experience in the energy sector, specifically in renewable energy in Mexico and Latin America.

About Fernando Navarro Sánchez

Fernando Navarro Sánchez currently serves as the Capacity Building and Conflict Resolution Expert at the Ombudsman’s Office for UN Funds and Programmes. He is also a JAMS panelist and has served as a commercial mediator with experience mediating and co-mediating complex matters involving parties and counsel from Latin America, the U.S., and Europe. Mr. Navarro has significant experience in the energy sector, specifically in renewable energy in Mexico and Latin America. 

Mr. Navarro is passionate about dispute resolution, particularly negotiation and mediation. He is a frequent speaker, writer and trainer in those specialties in several cities of Mexico, the US, and the Central American region. He has acted as a co-mediator, a solo mediator, and as a negotiation consultant. He is co-founder of the academic initiative “Academia de Negociación,” an organization dedicated to fostering negotiation skills throughout the Spanish speaking world. 

Mr. Navarro received his law degree from the Universidad Autonoma de San Luis Potosi, in Mexico. He holds an LL.M. in dispute resolution from the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine Caruso School of Law in California. He is certified by the Mexico City Courts System as a private mediator. Mr. Navarro is also a fellow with the International Academy of Mediators, and a member of the International Advisory Council at the International Mediation Institute.

Litigation Practice 

  • Mr. Navarro worked for six years in a prestigious Mexican law firm in the litigation, corporate and transactional areas.
  • He has extensive litigation practice experience as a legal consultant for renewable energy projects in Mexico and Latin America.

Mediation Practice

Mr. Navarro has participated as a solo mediator in over twenty cases in Mexico and the United States.

  • He has served as a co-mediator or observer in more than thirty commercial mediations in both countries.
  • He has experience as a mediator in family, commercial, construction and labor matters.
ADR Achievements and Training

  • Mr. Navarro is an established leader in mediation in Mexico. He coordinates the Mediation Commission at the Mexican Bar Association.
  • In 2018, he was part of a team of three mediators that successfully helped settle an eight-year-old dispute between different unions, beneficiaries of the bankruptcy of the major airline “Mexicana.”  The deal benefitted over seven thousand families.

ADR Teaching and Mentoring

  • Mr. Navarro co-founded the “Academia de Negociación,” an academic institution dedicated to fostering negotiation skills throughout the Spanish speaking world
  • He regularly teaches the “Summer Mediation Theory & Practice” course at the American University, Washington College of Law (2016, 2017 and 2018).
  • He is a regular adjunct or invited mediation or negotiation professor at a number of elite Mexican universities for undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate programs.
  • Mr. Navarro participated as an expert assessor for the IBA-VIAC Consensual Dispute Resolution Competition that took place in Vienna, Austria (2017).
  • Mr. Navarro is an active speaker in national and international mediation and negotiation forums.
